FOOTBALL

Personal Fulfillment & Community Involvement

Step on the field and lead with integrity.

  • Your Chance to Give Back to the Community: Officiating is a way to contribute to your community and support youth sports. It allows you to be a positive influence and role model for young athletes, teaching them about fair play and good sportsmanship.
  • Stay Involved with the Game You Love: Many former players who can no longer participate due to age or injury find that officiating allows them to stay connected to the sport they love. You get to be on the field, actively participating, rather than just watching from the sidelines.

  • A Great Opportunity for Personal Development: Officiating helps develop valuable life skills. It requires you to make quick decisions under pressure, manage conflicts, and communicate effectively. You’ll also learn to be decisive, confident, and handle criticism.

  • Enhance Your Physical Fitness: Officiating is a great way to stay active and get exercise. Officials are constantly moving, and some can run several miles during a single game.

  • Earn Some Extra Income: While it may not be a primary career for most, officiating allows you to have a source of extra income. Of course, pay varies by location and level of play, but it can be a nice way to supplement your income during the year.

Challenges & Considerations

It’s not all roses and sunshine, though. It’s important to note that officiating isn’t without its challenges. You’ll need to have a thick skin to deal with criticism from coaches, players, and fans. It also requires a significant time commitment to learn the rules and mechanics of the game. However, for those who are passionate about football, the rewards often outweigh the difficulties.
